Alcohol Addiction Help

Treatment for Alcohol addiction in North London, St.Albans and Buckinghamshire.

If you are reading this page, you may be concerned that you have, or are in danger of having, an alcohol addiction. You might possibly feel that you have ‘an addictive personality’, or you are troubled by the possibility of someone you know becoming addicted to, or dependent on, alcohol. If so, I can help.

Alcohol abuse is essentially a way of dealing with feelings of being out of control and powerlessness. You may feel like the addiction is the one controlling you and you may feel at it’s mercy, incapable of resisting it, some or most of the time.

Is your drinking out of control?

Six pints…recommended weekly alcohol limits for men & women

Alcohol can have a relaxing effect, which is why we as a society have at the centre of our social activities, places to drink and escape from everyday pressures and worries. What is a normal social behaviour at first can escalate out of control to a level that is counter-productive and that quickly can become a problem.

Recent changes to governmental guidelines for weekly alcohol consumption have lowered the ‘safe’ level of alcohol intake down to just 14 units per week for both men and women. This equates to 6 pints of beer per week. Any more than this amount, these guidelines tell us, can increase the risk of illnesses such as liver disease and cancer.

Why do we abuse alcohol?

There will always be an explanation as to why some people abuse alcohol whilst others can enjoy it safely. Perhaps drinking is seen as an escape from the strains and rigmarole of everday life. Possibly your life feels empty or lacking in direction or purpose and alcohol fills that void. Often, it is a coping mechanism to deal with negative emotions. Perhaps you may also feel that you don’t have the willpower or capability to resist drinking.

Treatments for addiction, such as hypnotherapy, can mainly help to give you a quick boost, to help you to feel more in control and empowered. However, the most effective course of treatment that I can advise for any addictive behaviour is the incredibly successful Thrive Programme…
