Questions & Answers

I completely understand that it can seem like a real minefield when you are deciding what is right for you so I’ve written this page to answer some key questions you may have about The Thrive Programme. Further down this page you can read how it is completely different to other types of treatment to help you make an informed choice as to whether this programme is suitable for you.

What exactly is The Thrive Programme ?

It is a revolutionary and powerful training programme that helps you to understand yourself, the beliefs, psychological foundations and exhibited thinking styles that cause and maintain your symptoms and problems in life. Once you have that insight, it can be very easy to think differently, change old patterns of behaviour and feel back in control. The Thrive Programme is proven to be highly successful with a huge range of symptoms, conditions and problems. When people are thriving they are living their life to the full. They find it easier to be resilient, to stay happy and healthy, to be successful and to achieve their goals.

How was The Thrive Programme created?

This unique programme has been developed by Psychotherapist, Researcher and best-selling Author Rob Kelly and his uniquely insightful understanding of people. He has spent a lifetime analysing what makes people tick. His experiences and research have led to an exceptional level of understanding of people’s problems, symptoms and anxieties.

How does it work?

It is a structured, easy to follow training programme that involves you really getting to understand:

  • What makes you tick, what limiting beliefs you may have, your personality type and the specific ‘thinking styles’ you adopt.
  • Discover the Psychological Foundations that dictate how you view and respond to the events and experiences in your life.
  • How much power you believe you have to make changes in your life: how much ‘self-efficacy’ do you have, how in control you feel.
  • How your self-esteem can be changed in just two weeks, and the huge knock-on effect this will have upon you.
  • How YOU create anxiety, stress, fears and phobias – and how to get rid of them.
  • How your desire for control means you avoid many situations in life, and actually create more anxiety.
  • How your emotions and your thinking affect your immune system, and your ability to stay healthy. A true understanding of just how our mind and bodies interact to produce symptoms, and how we can change them.
  • How different this programme is to any other, and why this one works while others fail.
  • How superstitions, magical beliefs, and fate, luck and chance type beliefs affect your life.
  • How you can overcome just about any situation in life, and Thrive.

Who is suitable for The Thrive Programme?

Anyone, of any age: Pensioners, adults, teenagers and children have all successfully completed this programme to change their lives.

How long does the programme last?

Most people need about six weekly sessions to learn all of the component parts of Thriving. Occasionally, some people may need an extra session but this is rare.

How long is each session?

My sessions last approximately 60-75 minutes each, although some sessions tend to slightly overrun by an extra few minutes.

How much does it cost?

The Programme, from outset to completion, costs £800.

This fee includes;

  • Six weekly sessions lasting over 1 hour
  • The Thrive Programme Workbook
  • The Thrive Programme Journal
  • My expert guidance applying the programme into the framework of your life
  • On-going support via email or telephone between sessions
  • The option to record each session
  • A free follow-up session if required

Will it work for me?

Well, that depends on you! From my personal experience, if you put in the correct amount of effort you always will feel either completely or significantly better. Thrive will not work for people who are only looking for a magical quick fix or those who aren’t willing to take up the task of applying the Programme into their daily life.

What is the effort I need to put in?

You need to engage and interact in the session, be as open and honest as you can. After each session, I will give you a couple of chapters from The Thrive Programme book to read. It’s a fascinating and interactive book so do all the quizzes and exercises asked of you. Generally, apply your knowledge from our sessions and the book to your everyday life as much as possible. Occasionally I may set you little tasks further on in the programme, nothing too daunting, just to help you to create new positive beliefs and behaviour.

How The Thrive Programme is different to Suggestion (‘mainstream’) Hypnotherapy

The appeal of hypnotherapy is entirely understandable. When people feel powerless about resolving their anxiety or symptom, who wouldn’t like the idea of being ‘put out to sleep’ to find that your problems are gone when you wake up! This CAN indeed sometimes be the case when the client has a minor symptom or limiting belief. In this case, suggestion hypnosis may well be all that person needs to get over that blip in their life. Hypnosis has it’s benefits and I do sometimes use it to give clients an extra boost.

However, ALL our symptoms, whether it’s depression, anxiety, phobias, OCD, insomnia are the direct result of our thinking. Therefore, in order to permanently overcome a symptom, the most empowering thing we can do is understand and address the thinking that caused it in the first place. Hypnosis may well change our thinking about a certain issue, but without the substance or foundation to support the new thinking/beliefs we run the risk of quickly undoing the hypnosis suggestions by reverting to old ways of thinking.

The aim of Hypnosis is to suggest away symptoms. However, symptoms are only the END RESULT of other issues – whether it’s issues with our self esteem, social anxiety or feeling out of control. Therefore, unless these primary issues are addressed, many positive results of hypnotherapy are unlikely to be permanent. The good news is that it really is quite simple to change the real cause of our symptoms in an empowering and permanent way – which is what The Thrive Programme aims to do in just six sessions.

My aim is to help empower people with a treatment that is predictable and understandable – and unfortunately results acheived from hypnotherapy are neither of these things.

Is The Thrive Programme different to counselling?

Yes, completely! Counselling can be beneficial by allowing a client to off-load or talk through a problem. This is particularly useful if that person is unable to talk to friends or family. However, the disadvantage of counselling can be that you may find yourself going over old ground, dredging up past hurts and experiences and bringing those pains to the surface but with no resolution or change of perspective.

I find this is particularly the case with counselling that is focussed on discussing people’s childhoods. Very often, when people feel unhappy with themselves or their lives in the here and now, they feel powerless to change themselves, their behaviour or their circumstances…and hope that by resolving past issues will help their present days problems. However, going back to the past is rarely the answer. You may gain more insight into why you behave as you do….although it doesn’t necessarily mean that you feel empowered enough to overcome problems or change your life now.

With The Thrive Programme, the focus is upon your thoughts TODAY. We are looking at the processes by which anxiety and symptoms are created: HOW you think about things, rather than WHAT you are thinking about. This explains why some days people may have their symptom and other days they do not – their lives may not have changed but their thinking has.

How does The Thrive Programme differ from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming)?

Thrive is entirely different to techniques such as NLP or CBT in that 90% of the success of this programme lays in your understanding of your thinking and beliefs that are creating the symptom. In fact, many of my clients have already tried these techniques to little or no avail.

The limitations of treatments that are driven by techniques (rather than insight and understanding) run the risk of only being partially or temporarily successful. If you are not able to understand or alter the driving forces behind your anxiety, symptoms or limiting beliefs it can feel as though you are treading water or fire-fighting, trying to fend off negative thoughts.

These methods mainly deal with controlling negative thoughts rather than significantly altering the belief symptoms from where these thoughts are originating from.

Just having that level of understanding and insight that The Thrive Programme will give you is the main factor in overcoming symptoms – even before needing to use any proactive techniques to deal with anxiety and symptoms
